Psychoeducational Evaluation

A psychoeducational evaluation is a comprehensive assessment of an individual’s cognitive profile, academic achievement, and social, emotional, and behavioral functioning. It can reveal the following:

  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

  • Learning Disabilities – Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia

  • Nonverbal Learning Disability

  • Social, Emotional, and Behavioral Disorders (i.e., anxiety, depression, OCD)

  • Symptoms of Autism Spectrum Disorder (which need further evaluation)

The psychoeducational evaluation process begins with a ninety-minute initial consultation, in which I gather information regarding the presenting problem, background history, and any other concerns, so that I may obtain a comprehensive understanding of the issues. The evaluation process is fully explained and scheduled should the parent wish to proceed with testing.

The evaluation consists of eight hours of individualized testing spread across two days. If needed, the psychoeducational evaluation can be spread across three days. Parents and teachers are provided with online behavior rating questionnaires to complete, in order to gather social, emotional, and behavioral data. Following the completion of these questionnaires and the scoring of all testing within the evaluation, a ninety-minute feedback session will be scheduled, during which the results and recommendations will be relayed. A summary will be provided at the time of the feedback and a full formal report will be completed and emailed to the parents within forty business days following the feedback session.

Based on the results of the psychoeducational evaluation, I will customize an intervention and accommodation plan tailored for your child/adolescent/young adults’ specific academic, social, emotional, or behavioral needs, which may include:

  • Academic Therapy

  • Dyslexia Therapy

  • Extended time on quizzes, tests, and exams

  • Preferential seating

  • Sensory breaks

  • Assistance with note-taking

  • Alternate testing locations

  • Early college class registration

  • Foreign language and math waivers

  • Extended time on entrance exams (i.e., SAT, ACT, GRE, LSAT, MCAT, Bar Exam)
  • Speech and language therapy

  • Executive function coaching

  • Parenting support

  • Counseling

  • Occupational Therapy

  • ABA Therapy

  • Medical consultation

My psychoeducational evaluations are individualized based on the specific needs of each client. I do not use interns and do all of the testing, interpretation, and report writing myself. I am currently not providing autism evaluations, but can provide you with referrals. I take clients ages five years to young adults who are typically still in school.

Consultation

I am available for consultation with families, individuals, and other providers, including school professionals, therapists, counselors, physicians, psychiatrists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists in order to provide for a continuum of care.

Insurance

I do not take insurance, but following the evaluation, I will be able to provide you with a “Superbill” that you may submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. I recommend that you call your insurance provider before the evaluation to see what your benefits may be for out-of-network services.
